Dugong

Dugongs, the elusive sirenian that served as the model for mermaids, are only raised in two aquariums around the world. The only place where the dugong can be found in captivity in Asia is at Toba Aquarium. Our dugong, nicknamed Serena, was discovered and protected in the Philippines in its infancy. Thanks to the loving care from its keepers, Serena grew up rapidly and healthy. Now, over 30 years later, she breaks the world record for the longest time that a Dugong has been cared for in captivity. Come visit Serena, our gentle chubby friend who consumes up to 30 kilograms of seagrasses a day!

Sea Otter

Sea otters are known for their cute expressions and movements filled with intelligence and personality. Sometimes you can witness them swimming rapidly on their backs, sometimes you can see them lounge around floating on the water, and sometimes you can see them cutely groom themselves. During the sea otter feeding times, you can witness the amazing amount of seafood that the sea otter consumes. If you see them during their physical examinations, you might be able to witness the sea otter jump out of the water to a height of almost 140 cm!

Tropical Fish

If you visit Toba Aquarium's coral reef area, you can see the colorful tropical fish happily swimming around. Our 8 meter wide coral tank, though an artificial environment, still displays the diversity of the aquatic life in coral reefs, including turtles, many types of tropical fish, and a variety of coral.
Coral are living creatures, and are continuously growing and spawning. In the special coral reef diving area, visitors can experience the feeling of diving by being able to watch the fish from below.

Japanese Giant Crab

The Ise-Shima area has a beautiful ria coast with much unique marine life living in its unique ecosystem. In particular, the lobsters and the Japanese giant crabs which inhabit these waters are a must-see!
Additionally, in the sea in front of Toba Aquarium lives a species of small-toothed whale called the Sunameri whale, or finless porpoise. In this area, you have the opportunity to observe the finless porpoise from close range. If this small-toothed whale is happy, it will lean on the glass, so don't forget to wave and say hello!

Giant Isopod (Unusual Creatures)

Underwater creatures are not always cute and colorful. There are a large variety of creatures who have physically adapted to their harsh underwater environment. At the "Unusual Creatures Laboratory" (Area K), you can meet these interesting and exciting creatures! Among them is the same type of giant isopod that only lives in the deep sea. In this area you can also view the larvae of the spiny lobster, which looks almost alien and glass-like. This exhibit is unique to Toba Aquarium.
