Amphibians such as frogs and newts do not have their skin covered by scales, so prolonged dryness can be fatal to them. For this reason, they are able to act while keeping an eye on how the humidity may change, making them specialists in sensing humidity.
The Frog and Newt Weather Forecast aquarium was created with this in mind, and will be only available from this rainy season through the summer!
From June 1st through August 31st, twice a day at 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM, keepers will observe the behaviour of the frogs and newts in the designated aquarium. The frogs and newts will act as our representative amphibians, and based on their behaviour, we will predict the weather for the following day.
Since they are living creatures, the weather forecast may not be completely accurate, but we hope that our visitors will enjoy discovering new things by observing our nearby amphibian friends.
